Teaching the children

  1. I was asked to leave the Boy Scouts when I was 14, because it was pretty obvious I wasn't like other boys. Not that I cared. I was only in it because my folks thought it was something I ought to do and would grow to like it. I didn't. I hated camping and couldn't swim (still can't). And my first male crush was an airman who was helping out the scout master. Gorgeous man who looked so damn right in a square-cut Speedo.

  2. Under protest, I was briefly a cub scout. I never hid when I disapproved of being signed up for stuff. Even as a child I thought the pursuit of merit badges was pretty stupid... an impression only reinforced my total disdain for the other kids in the group.
