That was Dana Milbank at The Washington Post, Obama's best friend at the newspaper, on August 8. On the same date, Sarah Palin was giving a speech that might have been written for Tom Joad, Steinbeck's immortal hero. Not only have the Republicans succeeded in blaming him for their economic crises (note, the several to fall out from 2008), they are now skilfully blaming him as Herbert Hoover reincarnated. Of course this is the greatest parody since Hitler complained of the Reichstag fire, but it is working, and it is as if Obama is not even noticing. I don't care what he knows. I care for his constituency.
