I also remember the party (Al Gore specifically) who laughed at Oliver North's idea that Osama bin Laden was a threat to us. I remember the party (Clinton specifically) who turned down Sudan when they wanted to hand over Osama. I remember who was in control of the government when the 9/11 hijackers were in training in the U.S. I remember the president who called for an end to racial divide (but when you critize Obama you're first of all a racist). I remember a president and Congress that promised open discussions (telecast on CSpan!!) but where was the Healthcare debated?? I remember a president who appointed a Treasury Secretary (who controls the IRS) who didn't pay their taxes. I remember a president who turned down international help over the Gulf oil spill. Etc..... They're ALL crappy choices if you ask me....
THANK YOU - for the 'I Remember' video. Unfortunately, I think most Americans won't even remember to vote. But this video is a stirring and thoughtfull thing to behold, I greatly admire it's filmmakers talents, and the truths of it all. - Montana Cowboy
You Americans don't understand a damn. Always complaining about hot water as we say in Italy. You're never happy with anything. Why aren't you happy with Obama? If you only knew the situation herein Italy with Berlusconi! Far worse than yours... Could I remain anonymous please?
Obama has no one but himself and his administration to blame for people's perceptions of him. He spit on those who elected him -- we DFHs and liberals. He kissed the ass of those did everything they could to hurt him -- the GOP. He gave in to the bankers and Wall Street and let them loot the Treasury without any real oversight (tho' half that was thanks to W). He ignored his promises about DADT, DOMA and Guantanamo. And he insisted everything was going great even as millions were losing their jobs and homes and futures. And what'll happen after this election? We'll just get more of the same, only moreso.
I didn't vote...for the first time since I became old enough to. Why bother when your choices are a gun to the head or a knife to the gut? Either way, you're dead.
Unless one says goodbye to what one loves, and unless one travels to completely new territories, one can expect merely a long wearing away of oneself. - Jean Dubuffet

.My call for a spiritual revolution is thus not a call for a religious revolution. Nor is it a reference to a way of life that is somehow other-worldly, still less to something magical or mysterious. Rather, it is a call for a radical re-orientation away from our habitual preoccupation with self towards concern for the wider community of beings with whom we are connected, and for conduct which recognizes others' interests alongside our own.

Fighting Against Neglect
. .
Our problems, both those we experience externally such as wars, crime and violence and those we experience internally as emotional and psychological suffering will not be solved until we address this underlying neglect of our inner dimension. That is why the great movements of the last hundred years and more--democracy, liberalism, socialism, and Communism--have all failed to deliver the universal benefits they were supposed to provide, despite many wonderful ideas. A revolution is called for, certainly, but not a political, an economic, or a technical revolution. We have had enough experience of these during the past century to know that a purely external approach will not suffice. What I propose is a spiritual revolution.
In a dying civilization, political prestige is the reward not of the shrewdest diagnostician but of the man with the best bedside manner. It is the decoration conferred on mediocrity by ignorance.

ReplyDeleteHmm - 3 trillion more debt in less than 2 years under Obama. Or 3 trillion debt (not great either) under W.
