  1. The third misanthrope - the portrait is an established classic, of course - gains a little humanity and legitimacy, the more you study the picture as an essay on thumbs. This isn't hard to do, their deflection is so prominent and expressive, as oracles of detections undertaken by the rest of him. Of course it could be that this completeness of his absorption in these gestures, underscores the thumbs' spontaneous arc. I've always very much liked this picture.

  2. Not so !! most definitely the throat expression of relief and content;the corners of the mouth. there is the true arc. Oh and may I say that some of the more sublime were those with the lower numbers, humbler yes , but closer to the divine. Twinkle , twinkle little star!
