  1. This could be Fabrice, languishing at the Villa Farnese. He is beautiful enough to inflame Delacroix.

    But he is here for Stendhal. He explains Stendhal to our time and for us; Stendhal is defunct in Western Europe but ripened in purified appositeness in the United States. We, in our genius, offer homophobia in redneck absolutism, in place of a monolithic Church, an exclusionary Society, and careers immunised against talent. For me, he is the dust jacket to "The Charterhouse of Parma" in its next US edition. I love him.

  2. Yes, I think this picture is terrific. I've learned that it's by Sandro Bross and is part of a series, naturally.
