Blanc de blancs

It pays to be obvious, especially if you have a reputation for subtlety.

  1. The moment I saw this title and the telling crown of the first model's head, I felt the association of ideas to be impregnable. I'd have let it go with him, but I welcome the suggestion of the alternatives. But the phrase anticipates him, its assimilation frames him, and its implication welcomes him without reservation.

We love a blanc de blancs. Vignerons who produce them at their best are more than aware of the treasure they are manipulating. They do not think of it as superior, but they do think of it as an ideal. And it is. It is the most affectionately committed transformation of a grape on this earth, because grand cru chardonnay is so obviously so beautiful, so vigorously structured, so irradiating of its loveliness that any excess of trifling strikes one not as a miscalculation, but as a wound.

Thank god it can't be done except in France.

    :)
