Parable

One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do. At last, he decided the animal was old (and not very smart), and the well needed to be covered up anyway; it just wasn't worth the time and trouble to retrieve the donkey.

The farmer invited his neighbors in Silicon Valley to come over and help him. They grabbed shovels and began to heave dirt into the well. As programmers and tech engineers, they were good at shoveling shit anyway. At first, when the donkey realized the horror of what was happening, he cried horribly. Then, to everyone's amazement, he quieted down.

A few shovel loads later, the farmer looked down the well. He was astonished at what he saw. With each shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something interesting: he shook it off and took a step up. . . . As the farmer's geeky neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up.

Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and trotted off, braying loudly.

But . . . so much for the "happy ending." The important part is, the donkey came back later on and firmly bit the arm of the farmer who had tried to bury him. The gash from the bite became seriously infected. The farmer died shortly thereafter, in agony from septic shock.

Moral of the Story (listen up, Google):

When you do something wrong, and try to cover your ass, it always comes back to bite you.

Please give me some good advice in your next letter.
I promise not to follow it.
